Description:  This photo always reminds me of favorite train trip to Florida. Instead of taking Amtrak there directly from Philadelphia, I took the then-independent Southern Crescent to Birmingham and then took the Amtrak Floridian (a Chicago to Florida train) from Birmingham to Miami. Heres the Crescent in Birmingham in August 1976.

Description:  Just outside the Atlanta station waits an EMD NW2 with the dome car and a business car to add to Southern Crescent. August 1976. The Southern Railways paint scheme proved that black (when combined with white and gold) could make for an attractive paint scheme (especially when kept clean, as the SR did).
